About the book
In Japan, the line that divides myth from reality is not merely blurred, it is nonexistent. Supersitions, legends and folk myths are passed down through the generations and pervade daily life. Your neighbour isn't merely an eccentric old woman - she might well be a shape-shifting water sprite. Thersa Matsuura has captured the essence of Japanese imagination in this darkly insightful collection, illuminating a place where even reality is strange and fantastical.
