A Straightforward Guide to Law for Non-Lawyers

About the book

The aim of this book is to answer all the questions about law and the English legal system that a non-lawyer might have. The book will cover the basics of the English legal system, including why things are the way they are, the different roles people working within the legal system have, and what legal terms mean. This book has developed based upon the fact that it is clear that many people, including those whose roles touch upon some aspects of the law (such as social workers and nurses), have very little knowledge and understanding of why the legal system is as it is, and the implications of the system. A basic text is required that can provide an introduction with no prior knowledge assumed. The book includes the following: An overview of the English legal systemn an explanation of legal terminology, the operations of the courts, the people you might find in a court, and understanding legal cases. Aimed at non-lawyers, the book will be of interest to anyone who has anything to do with the English legal system (which really could be anyone!), and especially to those whose professions cause them to engage with legal processes.
