Published in 1979, A Woman of the Future is David Ireland's sixth bestselling novel and third award winner. An imaginative tour de force, it recalls the young life of Anthea Hunt - from conception to adolescence, mapping the shocking details of her upbringing and rebellious actions. Often controversial but always utterly engaging, Ireland assumes the role of Editor, collating and presenting Anthea's narrative through notebooks and diary memoirs. Her transformation from inquisitive child to fearless leopard is quite unlike anything in Australian literature.
