The first in a new series Queer Film Classics which comprises monographs on classic films of interest to LGBT audiences. The introductory title is based on the final years of James Whale, the gay film director best-known for Frankenstein, renowned for Ian McKellen's acclaimed performance and an Oscar for Bill Condon's screenplay. The series is edited by Pressor Thomas Waugh and Lamda Award-winning author and film critic Matthew Hays.
