2009 marked the eighth anniversary of the adoption of NEPAD, a socio-economic programme whose priority is poverty eradication and regional integration, by the African Union. The purpose of Rukato's study therefore, is to assess the evolution and successes of NEPAD over the last eight years, as well as the challenges it has faced. Most importantly, Rukato highlights the decisions and sacrifices that will have to be made by Africans if Africa is to truly claim the 21st century.
