Her Not All Heris a collage of voices about, from, and to the Swiss writer Robert Walser, by the Austrian writer and Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek. It is a play, and has been performed as such, but there are no characters, no obvious action, and only the deepest possible engagement with Walser s language and personality. The texthighlights what Jelinek calls the fundamental fragmentation of Walser's voice, revealing Walser as one of those people who, when they said I , did not mean themselves . At the same time, it shows Jelinek to be a virtuosic reader of classic European writers.
