Akashic Books

Akashic Books is an award-winning, Brooklyn-based independent company dedicated to publishing literary fiction, crime fiction, and political nonfiction by authors who are either ignored by the mainstream, or who have no interest in working within the ever-consolidating ranks of the major corporate publishers. Akashic hosts additional imprints and series including the Akashic Noir Series, the Akashic Drug Chronicles Series, Black Sheep—a Young Adult/Middle Grade imprint, Open Lens, Punk Planet Books, Dennis Cooper’s Little House on the Bowery Series, and Infamous Books. Cofounded in 1997 by Girls Against Boys’ bassist Johnny Temple, the company publishes approximately 25-30 books per year.
