The Berlin-based artist Sebastian Meschenmoser is one of the most narrative painters of his generation. His various work groups repeatedly revolve around surreal intermediate realms of human consciousness, where animals and humans come together in fantastic constellations. The present volume sheds light on Meschenmoser's painterly oeuvre to date, featuring his work group Sets, which was recently presented for the first time ever in the Landesmuseum Wiesbaden. These new works are based on photographs, which the artist shot in his studio over the past few years as studies for paintings. In these photographs, artist friends and Menschenmoser himself pose as protagonists, who also make appearances in the paintings in which the studio is presented as the site of artistic creation. The works provide much more than a mere glimpse into the artist's workplace - they also serve as a reflection on the artist's work.
