20 years ago, venomous parasitic wasps known as thieves staged a massive, apocalyptic attack on humans, pushing them to the brink of extinction. The 281 who survived live in Refugia, a colony including scientists, a pilot and a tough young woman named Kait. The survivors who leave the colony journey through wastelands to find that they are not the only humans left on earth - not by a long shot.
