As Japan transitioned toward the Meiji restoration, the status held by the Aokouji household during the Edo era, as honjin residence to the lords of the time, was lost. Aspiring operatic performer Miwa Aokouji becomes wrapped up in the turmoil created between the complicated relationship formed between her motherland and her new home, struggling to weave her way through an entanglement of relationships between man and woman, father and daughter, mother and daughter, and a variety of friends.
