About the book

The Vasarely exhibition in February 2019 is the first Parisian retrospective devoted to the artist since the 1963 Musee des Arts decoratifs exhibition. The show presented the 'Vasarely system', the aesthetics of an artist who, better than any other, has embodied the imagination of the 'Trente Glorieuses' and the idea of progress. For the first time, the exhibition gathered all aspects of Vasarely's production and not only the abstract and Op Art works, through paintings, commercials, multiples, architectural integrations, etc. testifying to a project of social diffusion of the art in the first half of the 20th century. Settled in Paris in 1930, where he worked as a graphic artist and as a creative consultant in advertising agencies, Vasarely developed his style of geometric abstract art, working in various materials but using a minimal number of forms and colours.
