About the book
Brilliantly chronicling the struggles and disillusionments of the early post-war years and telling Bill Mauldin's own extraordinary story of his journey home in 1945 to a wife he barely knew and a son he had only seen in pictures, Willie & Joe: Back Home captures the texture and feel of this confusing time. This second volume reprints Mauldin's greatest work, identifying and restoring dozens of cartoons originally censored for their attacks on racial segregation and McCarthy-style witch hunts.
